The name Inkari comes from the ritual dance performed during the summer equinox as part
of the annual Inti Raymi sundance festival. This dance, Inkari, is dedicated to the last
Inca, and is an aid to the legend that he will one day return to Tawauntinsuyo, the Quechua
name for the Andes, meaning the four corners of the world.
Inkari performs nationally and
has performed internationally over the past 10 years. They are widely recognized and
respected among all genres including Andean music, folk music, world music, and
international music. While others may perform Andean music, Inkari is unique as they
are dedicated to sharing their culture with all peoples and do so with professionalism
and sincerity.
